AFRICA - NEPAD BUSINESS FOUNDATION
Mission

The mission of the NBF is to deliver on the NEPAD ideals which are to alleviate poverty, to halt the marginalisation of Africa in the globalisation process and to fully integrate Africa into the global economy. This will be done through the delivery of sustainable projects for the benefit of the African people and the prosperity of the African continent.

Further, the organisation will develop a body of interested and affected businesses, who have a common purpose, to identify and pursue multiple opportunities in Africa. This is to be done by the establishment of sectoral committees who provide a contact point for business within each industry. Further these committees will meet to network, identify opportunities, disseminate information and ultimately bring projects to fruition.

GAUTRAIN FEEDER ROUTES - JHB - DOC 1
document that is made available to the public for comment on the Gautrain feeder and distribution route in the City of Joburg.

This document was compiled by Bombela on a request from the City to indicate how the busses that will transport passengers to and from the Gautrain stations will link with existing public transport services which includes BRT, Metro bus, and taxi services.

Although the feeder routes have been formulated after various investigations and transport modelings, it is stated that these routes may change with the implementation of the BRT system.

There are four categories of service not hierarchical or in order of priority:

1. Category 1 Feeder services Gautrain dedicated feeder and distribution services
Only serving Gautrain stations as end destinations to transport passengers along key routes to the stations.
2. Category 2 Feeder services Other direct feeder services
Same as the first category but aimed at routes not covered by the 1st category and where there is less demand.
3. Category 3 Feeder services secondary feeder services
Operates along a given route with the Gautrain station as one of the important stops. Mainly metro bus or BRT services.
4. Category 4 Feeder services Incidental feeder services
Operates in the vicinity of the Gautrain station but does not necessarily serve the station directly. This could include municipal bus, private bus or taxis.

The document sets out the hours of operation, frequency of service, service performance, type of vehicle, branding and stops.
Additional information relate to ticketing and fare levels, and fare integration between different public transport modes.

The document provides maps and tables of how each station area will be affected and in most instances it states that the Rosebank, Sandton, Illovo and Randburg feeder routes have remained unchanged you can get the original maps from the Gautrain website. I have extracted from the document relating to the Randburg route which will be part of the Sandton route. Should you wish the full document, please let me know and I will e-mail it to you in two parts as it is a big file.

The deadline for comment to be submitted is by the 30 December 2009, we would like to collect your comments by next week Thursday, 10 December 2009, so we can submit our comments or objections by Friday, 11 December 2009. You are also very welcome to submit your own comments, see attached details as to whom you need to forward your comments to.

MadLabs MARKETING STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT
Brian Mdluli of the Direct Marketing Association realised that the students studying Marketing at college level struggled to get worthwhile employment on graduating. The main problem was the lack of hands-on experience. Not wanting to limit the students to mundane employment where their creativity and energy would be stifled, he formed Mad Labs, which offers unemployed marketing students a comprehensive, all-encompassing marketing experience. Backed by the Services Seta, Mad Labs' management brings in projects from small to medium-sized businesses, gives each project to a team of students, and mentors the campaign development process. The client company pays for their services, but at a rate far lower than that of the market. All parties benefit: Brian Mdluli realises his dream of developing a strong, young, motivated source of future 'marketing marvels'; the students get invaluable experience; and the client is the beneficiary of a professional marketing campaign that won't empty the budget.
As a member of the RCCI, Mad Labs is offering special rates to fellow members. For further information - and to meet the team! - call Sandy on 082 433 6085.

SME BUSINESS TOOLKITS

Starting a business is an exciting, but scary prospect. There are so many issues to consider, such as deciding which is the most suitable business format and what you will name your venture. Don't wory, we'll point you in the right direction!

Yes, it makes the world go 'round, but it can also make it stand still. Put strict financial processes in place so you know who you owe and who owes you; one way to maintain a steady cash flow. And keep in mind that the way you manage your personal finances can affect the longevity of your business.

Mothers who own, or want to start, a small business have a lot more to consider than the average entrepreneur. This category will help you decide if becoming a 'momtrepreneur' is the right choice for you, and if so, how to balance work and family so you and your loved ones benefit from you being your own boss.

Buying, selling or leasing commercial property can be a complicated process. It can greatly boost your chances for success and is one area where professional, trustworthy advice is key. Articles in the property category cover many of the potential plusses and pitfalls that come with buying or leasing a property.

SME DEVELOPMENT - RCCI PROJECT PARTNER - WITS BUSINESS SCHOOL
SCULPTING GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURS IN AFRICA
An introduction to the Centre for Entrepreneurship at Wits Business School
That Africa faces vast socio-economic challenges and opportunities in the next decade is beyond question. The extent to which the entrepreneurial process can be effectively applied to overcome challenges and capitalise on opportunities continues to be the subject of debate.
In South Africa, the importance of entrepreneurship to the nations development can hardly be overestimated. Not only does small business account for a sizeable portion of GDP and jobs, entrepreneurship is seen as a mechanism for achieving more widespread social stability, as a vehicle for poverty relief, socio-economic empowerment and as a means of enhancing global competitiveness.
Without entrepreneurship, South Africas vision of a vibrant economy characterised by growth, equity and employment cannot become a reality. Thats why Wits Business School established the Centre for Entrepreneurship.
Our purpose
The Centre for Entrepreneurship is an integral part of the University of the Witwatersrands Business School. Through a range of clearly focused education and training programmes, backed by a formidable support network, and research activities in this vital field, the centre is actively developing the role of entrepreneurship in the domestic economy.
Through the right training and education, we aim to increase the proportion of South Africans engaged in entrepreneurial activity, and to enhance the success potential of those already in business. Skills and information are essential tools in turning any entrepreneurial venture from mere survival the need for an income to capitalising on opportunity and building a sustainable business.

SMME' SMALL, MICRO & MEDIUM ENTERPRISES
In the SBP alert below, SPB takes stock of small business development in South Africa, and argue that SMME policy needs to be re-thought. The governments initiatives over the past 15 years have fallen disappointingly short of aspirations. Effective small business development on the scale needed requires a new, sustained engagement between the public and private sectors at all levels of government, and must encourages big business to become operationally involved in small business development. The Alert identifies some models that are having a real impact.
